People often ask us what is the difference between organic and regular or conventional vegetables. The simple answer is that the difference is how the food is produced. Organic vegetables are grown without the use of conventional or synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or GMOs.

When you buy organic vegetables you are buying from farms that must meet rigourous standards and undergo regular inspections to ensure they comply with Irish and EU regulations.
What makes Drumanilra Organic Farm vegetables so special?
At Drumanilra Organic Farm our approach plays close attention to nature, working with the land to produce food in an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable way. Our vegetables are produced on land that our family has farmed for generations, along hills that slope gently down towards Lough Key. Surrounded by native woodland and wildflower meadows our vegetables grown on a farm that supports biodiversity in both habitats and species.
We have four polytunnels and an outdoor growing area. We are currently constructing two new, commercial scale, polytunnels which will be ready for the next growing season. We control pests and encourage fertility with companion planting, green manures, crop rotation and animal manure from the farm. The vegetable garden is full of brightly coloured edible and decorative flowers to attract bees for pollination and flying pest predators, like the hoverfly, which love to munch on aphids. We grow a range of seasonal vegetables year round including mixed salad leaves, seasonal tomatoes, fresh herbs, beans, pumpkins, courgettes, cucumbers, potatoes, peas and much more.
