We’re seriously lucky to live in a place like Sligo. From wild coastlines to mountaintop views, seaweed baths to sauna dips, here are 5 amazing ways you can spend Mother’s Day in Sligo.

If you’re after an experience rather than the usual box of choccies this Mother’s Day, try one of these brilliant ideas…

Brunch at Honestly Farm Kitchen

Start the day off right with a farm-to-fork brunch at Honestly Farm Kitchen in Strandhill. We’re just minutes from the beach and serving everything from our full Honestly Farmer’s Breakfast to pancake stacks, homemade granola, smoothies and seriously good coffee. Or pop in on the way home and treat yourself to a hearty lunch or dinner. Find out more

Climb to Queen Maeve’s Cairn

For outdoorsy mums, the Queen Maeve Trail is a must. This boardwalk-style path winds up Knocknarea Mountain to the legendary cairn of Queen Maeve. No muddy boots or boggy patches here – just a stunning walk with views across Sligo Bay.

The round trip takes around 2.5 hours, with time to stop and soak it all in. Trust us, the view from the top is worth the climb – and that post-hike coffee will taste even better. Here’s all the details

Soak in a Seaweed Bath

Just down the road in Strandhill, VOYA Seaweed Baths offers a traditional Irish treat with a luxury twist. Step into your own private space, relax in a warm bath steeped in hand-harvested organic seaweed, and let nature work its magic.

It’s calming, nourishing for the skin, and feels like a proper reset. You can even add a massage or facial if you’re going full pamper-mode. Find out more and book here

Sweat it Out by the Sea

Want something totally different? Head to The Hot Box Sauna in Rosses Point. It’s a wood-fired Finnish sauna right on the edge of the Atlantic, with views over Knocknarea and Oyster Island.

Sit back in the heat, then brave a plunge in the sea or cold pool. It’s wild, refreshing, and the kind of experience you’ll talk about all year. Perfect for mums who love an adventure (or a bit of Nordic drama). Find out more here

    Sip Something Special

a bottle of drumshanbo whiskey and a glass

Fancy a mini road trip? Just across the border in Leitrim, you’ll find The Shed Distillery, home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. Their guided tour takes you behind the scenes of this famous gin – with a tasting at the end, of course.

It’s a great way to mix a bit of curiosity, creativity and a G&T into your Mother’s Day plans. There’s also a lovely café and gift shop onsite if you’re looking to make a whole afternoon of it. Get all the details here

However you spend the day, we hope it’s full of love, laughter, and a little bit of local magic.
